My combined Imperial and Chaotic Battlefleet Gothic fleet used as one ( well, this is the painted part of it, anyway). All the ships and smaller squadrons have their names painted to the bases and are based on Rhapsody of Fire's songs, like the flagships Eternal Glory and Dawn of Victory.

Combined Chaos/Imperial fleets are best IMO. I don't actually play BFG but I have the rules and ship datasheets, so I can still use my head. Imperial and Chaos ships both have good attack craft, the Imperial ships have a lot of torpedoes, Imperial ships have heavy close and mid range punch while Chaos ships have strong long and mid range firepower. Chaos ships tend to be faster, so they can avoid getting boxed-in and butchered by a numerically superior foe. Imperial ships can just bull through whatever is thrown at them (for awhile) until the Chaos ships can support them with lots of fire from afar.
The Imperium used the ships of both fleets (many of them, anyway) during the Great Crusade. Is it any wonder they conquered much of the galaxy in, like, three hundred years?
